Hunger Games

What a great book! and I have only read a couple of chapters. It starts out sad and depressing because it takes place in a futuristic setting where all of North America is destroyed except for one city and 12 districts. There use to be 13 but the 13th district was destroyed because it tried to over throw the city. The city controls the other districts and keeps them at poverty level and close to starvation. The 12th district is a coal mining area and it begins with the main character a girl by the name of Katniss who is a really good hunter and she is hunting with her best friend. She has to hunt to survive because her father was killed in a mining accident and her family would starve if she did not hunt. This story line in its own is sad but it gets sadder yet. It seems the City has a yearly tradition called the Hunger Games. They choose a boy and a girl from each district between the ages of 12 and 18. The two chosen come to the city and they participate in a game where they have to kill the other chosen (So there is a total of 24 competitors). The one remaining survivor brings fame and fortune to their district. I am just getting to the Games and Katniss the main character has been chosen to compete. She is a tough character and she has many skills but will she survive? I can't wait to find out!
